A melting pot of civilisations Humans have inhabited the island from the 7th millennium BC proceeding the minoan civilisation. Through the years the island has been part of numerous civilisations, such as the Romans, Byzantines, Venetians & Ottomans, all of which left their own mark on Crete’s longlasting History.
